In the course of developing, integrating and validating the control, diagnostic and safety-relevant software for locomotives and other rail vehicles, you will be responsible for the standard-compliant implementation of vehicle functions. This ranges from requirements analysis to software architecture and programming to commissioning and approval support.
In the main focus, but not exclusively, you will take on
→ Software and system development
- Development of software for vehicle control, train control, diagnostics and operation
- Creation and maintenance of software and system architecture

- Analysis of customer requirements, technical specifications, standards and approval requirements
- Derivation of vehicle, system, software and interface requirements
- Creation and maintenance of software requirements specifications
- Ensuring bidirectional traceability between requirements, architecture, source code
- and tests
→ Functional Safety and RAMS
- Participation in hazard analyses, FMEA, FMECA, fault tree analysis and safety verifications
→ Verification, validation and commissioning
- Creation of software verification and validation plans
- Definition and execution of module, integration, system and vehicle tests
→ Documentation and project work
- Creation of standard-compliant software development and approval documentation

→ To professionally implement the diverse challenges, you will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation technology, mechatronics or a comparable field as well as several years of professional experience in the development of software for rail vehicles, mobile machines, commercial vehicles or safety-critical systems
- Very good knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
- IEC 61131-3, Structured Text, Functional Diagram or CODESYS, C or C++
- MATLAB/Simulink, Python for test automation and evaluation
- Experience with real-time, embedded or PLC systems, requirements engineering/version management

(Senior) Design Engineer / Technical Manager Subproject Mechanics – Locomotives and Bogies (m/f/d)

Responsibility for the mechanical development of locomotives and rail vehicles with a focus on vehicle frames, bodies, bogies, bogies and mechanical interfaces includes independent design work as well as technical sub-project management for the field of mechanics. This includes coordinating internal and external designers, controlling calculations and verifications, and providing mechanical development and approval documentation on time.

→ Construction of locomotive frames and vehicle bodies
- Design and design of welded vehicle frames, driver's cabs, load-bearing vehicle structures

- Evaluation of lateral movements, boring angles, spring travel and collision spaces
→ Calculation and verification
- Definition of load cases, load spectrums and calculation boundary conditions, technical control of, among others:
- Analytical strength calculations and static FEM calculations
- Fatigue and fatigue strength verifications, weld seam verifications
- Stability and bending verifications, bolt and fastener calculations
- Crash and collision calculations, modal analyses and vibration assessments
- Derivation of constructive improvements from calculation and test results
- Definition and monitoring of static load and fatigue tests
→ Technical sub-project management
- Planning and control of the mechanical scope of development, structuring of the project into work packages
- Effort estimates, resource planning, coordination of internal designers and development offices
- Concept, design/release reviews, tracking of technical risks, open points, changes
- Monitoring of costs, deadlines, maturity level in the sub-project, reporting to development management

- Degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, rail vehicle technology or comparable discipline, several years of professional experience in the design of rail vehicles, locomotives, bogies or heavy mobile machines, proven experience with welded steel structures and the calculation of highly loaded load-bearing structures
- Very good knowledge of at least one professional 3D CAD system, preferably SolidWorks
- Experience with PDM or PLM systems and good knowledge of FEM systems such as ANSYS
- Experience with static and dynamic strength verifications, know-how in technical drawings, shape and position tolerances as well as welding symbolism
- Experience in the technical coordination of suppliers and external engineering offices

Objective of the role
The role supports the management of SCHÖMA Lokomotiven GmbH in analysing markets, customer requirements and competitive environments for existing and new rail vehicles (e.g. construction and maintenance vehicles, shunting locomotives, special vehicles).
The aim is to give students practical insight into the strategic issues facing an industrial company while at the same time developing a sound basis for decision-making on product, market and further development issues.
The tasks are deliberately designed to span multiple projects and are closely supervised at the outset, with the opportunity to gradually take on more responsibility.

1. Market and environment research
